NB Pipeline Companies Launch Call Before You Dig Campaign
Saint John, NB- New Brunswick’s three major natural gas pipeline companies are joining forces to encourage everyone to put safety first. Brunswick Pipeline, Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline and Enbridge Gas New Brunswick ask that Saint John contractors, companies and individuals call 1-866-344-5463 before doing any landscaping, digging or excavating. The toll-free service line is in place to provide assistance in arranging free pipeline locates.
“When beginning any work, from a simple tree planting to a major excavation, it’s important to plan ahead and call. When you dig and don’t call, you risk personal injury and damaging natural gas pipes and other underground utilities,” said Ed Armstrong, Manager of Distribution Operations for Enbridge Gas New Brunswick.
Companies, contractors and individuals are required by law to call for a pipeline locate before any digging begins. Anyone who fails to determine the location of underground pipes and causes damage to a natural gas line is liable for at least the cost of repairs and could face additional fines or charges. It’s also costly to the municipal departments that respond to these incidents.
“The service goes a long way to ensure safe working conditions and pipeline protection,” said Stephanie Moore, Area Manager of Operations for Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline.
By calling 1-866-344-5463 at least two working days in advance, personnel for each utility will inspect the property and indicate if and/or where underground services are located.
“With a single phone call, New Brunswick residents can prevent damage and avoid risk,” said Rob Belliveau, General Manager of Emera New Brunswick.
